About the blog:

As a course participant of " University of Oregon-AEI's Building Teaching Skills Through The Interactive Web - Fall 2014" program, I take great pleasure in creating and updating this blog. In the Webskills Homepage, my reflections on what I learned each week and how I intend to implement my learning in my work as a teacher will be the main area of focus. In the India: My Homeland Page, I would like to share with you some anecdotes from my life, stories regarding my students, the schooling system in my country and a few snippets about India. Thank you for visiting. Please, do leave your valuable comments.

Festivities in India - Week 1, Post 2

Celebrations:

It is the season of festivities in India now. All over India "Durga Puja" is being celebrated. I believe the world over, where ever Indians reside, they celebrate this festival. Let me explain a bit. "Durga" is a goddess who successfully defeated all evil forces, and "Puja" means the act of worship. Hence, we are celebrating the victory of good over evil, something which is common to all faiths.

There is a lot of activity at my home related to these celebrations and I am pressed for time. However, I am am managing quite well as I seem to have successfully created my own blog today. Yeah!

I have a suggestion. Let us incorporate a few things about us, like our teaching environment, our schooling system, about our students needs and something about our countries and cultures in this blog. This way we get to have a first- hand picture of so many nations and know about its students and its teachers. Let me know if you all agree to the idea.

I send by best wishes to all of you! Hope to read all your blogs very soon.

  1. Thank you SO much Sharmila for this post!

I just want to say that I completely agree with you and am going to upload something about my home country, Serbia, on my blog as soon as possible.

By the way, one of my favourite novels is The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy, so you can imagine how thankful I am to have read your post :)

Here are some links for those who haven't read the novel yet:

  2. Yes, Gordana, I have read it. While reading it I have experienced a vast range of emotions. I have both laughed and cried at times. Such a heart-felt account, such simple language, yet such immortal truths told. The book grows on you as you read it. Arundhati paints such a beautiful picture of Kerala, the southernmost state of India, its amazing!

Thanks for reminding me about the book.

    Best Wishes,
    Sharmila
